Many believe that the Trinity River is named for the three forks of the Trinity, but the inspiration for the name came from an early discoverer. In the late 1600s the river was named La Santissima de la Trinidad by Spanish General Alonzon de Leon in honor of the feast day of the Holy Trinity. Plus, there are actually four forks to our river.
